MISSION

The Manila Doctors College (MDC) Library supports the educational objectives of the college. Its main function is to provide the information needs of the students and faculty for their curricular, instructional, research, cultural, and community service programs. It endeavors to organize, maintain and provide fast access to appropriate literature through prompt delivery of information services.

 

VISION
The Library Department, as an integral pat of the institutional program of the college, envisions itself to be a model academic library of higher learning in the country.

OBJECTIVES

  • Design, develop, implement and continuously enhance an integrated library information system for easy retrieval of information and library materials
  • Develop, enrich and maintain library collection, services and facilities to compliment the academic requirements of program offerings.
  • Provide adequate and stimulating learning environment through access to relevant learning materials in all available format for instructional, informational, research and recreational needs of the MDC community.

Establish linkages and partnerships with other libraries, agencies and organizations.

  • There will be no regular service during semestral and summer breaks. Only Library Clearance for student and faculty and book returns will be accommodated.

LIBRARY USERS

  • All bona fide students of MDC  with validated school identification card (ID)
  • MDC faculty, administrators, and staff
  • MDC alumni with valid alumni ID
  • Researchers from other schools and institutions with recommendations or referral letters from their respective librarians and paid the access fee of Php50.00

 

ENTRANCE / EXIT

  • All students must wear their currently validated ID upon entry.  NO IDENTIFICATION CARD, NO ADMITTANCE
  • All users are required to deposit all personal belongings, including bags, briefcases, binders, attaches, plastic bags, packages, laptop bags, etc. at the Package Counter (bring your wallets, cell phones, and jewelry with you). Staff in charge is not liable for any losses
  • Users leaving the library are required to present their things for inspection at the Control Desk

 

VISITING USERS
Faculty, students and researches from other colleges, universities and other institutions are welcome to use the library resources. The following must be observed:

  • Faculty and students must present their school ID and referral letter from the Chief Librarian of their school.
  • Other researchers must present their current company ID.
  • A research fee of Php50.00 per person per visit is charged.
  • No visiting user shall be accommodated during mid-term and final examinations and semestral/summer break.
  • Visiting users will be accommodated from Monday-Friday, 8:00 am -5:00 p.m. only.
  • As a general rule, all library materials are to be used only in the library premises. 

 

BORROWING / RETURNING LIBRARY MATERIALS
Guidelines, Requirements and Procedure

  • To borrow any library material, a valid MDC identification card must be presented.
  • No library materials shall be removed from the Library until their issue has been properly recorded at the appropriate counter.
  • Only duly enrolled MDC students, faculty, administrators and staff can borrow books either for library or home use.
  • Alumni and outside users are allowed to use the collection only in the library premises.
  • Borrowers are responsible for materials checked out until they are returned to the library.
  • Borrowing privileges are non-transferable and must be exercised personally.
  • Borrowing privileges to bring materials out do not include general references, theses, newspapers, periodicals and  special collections
  • All materials should be returned to the library one week before the final examinations.

RENEWAL / RECALL

  •   Circulation books may be renewed once except if there are prior requests for them
  •   Students should bring the books in the library upon renewal.
  •   Faculty  and staff can renew  borrowed materials personally, thru e-mail  or telephone call.
  •    All materials checked out maybe recalled whenever needed by others.
  •   Overdue notices to students will be posted on the bulletin boards every week.
  •   Overdue notices to faculty will be sent thru e-mail.

OVERDUE FINES

  •   Overdue fines are charged for materials not returned as scheduled. Sundays and Holidays are not included in computing overdue fines.
  •   Student/employee with unsettled account will not be allowed to borrow any materials from the library.
  •   Names of students with library accountabilities will be submitted to the Finance Department one week before the final examinations.

 

LOST AND DAMAGED BOOKS

  • Borrowers who find a major damage in the materials they intend to borrow must report it immediately to the librarian, otherwise they will be held responsible for the damage.
  • Lost materials shall be replaced with the same title, author and edition or pay its current value.
  • Borrowers shall pay the overdue fine accumulated until such loss has been reported to the Librarian.
  • A processing fee of Php200.00 must also be paid.

 

LIBRARY CLEARANCE

  •  Students, faculty and staff must return all borrowed materials and pay their accounts to be cleared within the semester.
  •  Students with library accountabilities are encoded in the Clearance System.

 

LIBRARY COLLECTION
The total accumulation of books and other materials, catalogued and arranged for ease of access, which often consists of several smaller collections such as reference, circulating books, audio-visual materials, serials, rare books, special collections, etc.
Audio-Visual Materials – includes instructional non-print materials such as CD-ROM, DVD, VHS, maps, charts, etc.
Circulation -  collection of professional, general education and cultural books arranged in an open shelf system in which users have direct access to the collection in the stack areas. Library materials acquired in 2008 to present are classified according to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme while materials acquired before 2008 are classified in Dewey Decimal Classification.
  
Filipiniana – a collection of books and non-book materials about the Philippines,  its peoples and culture, regardless of author, imprint and language.
Periodicals - includes journals, magazines and serials which are arranged in alphabetical order and are strictly for library use only. Periodicals may be borrowed for reproduction purposes only.
Reference – a collection of extensive general materials such as atlases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, bibliographies, indexes and other self-contained books.  These materials are strictly for library use only. Books may be borrowed for reproduction purposes only.
Reserve  - includes books and other materials requested and prescribed by professors for the exclusive library use only of his/her class. Some materials may be borrowed for overnight use after 5 p.m. on weekdays and after 11 a.m. on Saturdays, and should be returned before 9:00 a.m. the following school day, otherwise an overdue fine (P10.00) will be charged per day.
Theses – a collection of theses and research projects submitted to the College by the graduating students. These materials are strictly for library use only. Only abstract of the theses or research can be photocopied
Vertical File – a collection of materials such as pamphlets, newspaper clippings, or brochures which because of their shape and often their ephemeral nature, are filed in alphabetical order by subject for easy reference and retrieval.

 

INTERNET SECTION

  • The internet should be used for academic and research related purposes only and for web-based e-mails.
  • Available services such as internet access, Microsoft office and printing of documents to support the research activities are available.
  • Access to non research-related sites is strictly prohibited including games, chatting, social networking, entertainment, and the like.
  • Students are entitled to 5 hours access after which the student will be charged P20.00 per hour.

 

GUIDELINES IN USING THE INTERNET SECTION

  • Present valid MDC ID at the counter.
  • Get the number of computer assigned.
  • Fill up Computer Utilization sheet properly
  • Users are not allowed to use USB.
  • MDC alumni will be charged Twenty Pesos (P20.00) per hour.
  • Students and faculty must ask permission from the staff to view personal CDs (VCD/DVD) for virus scanning purposes.
  • Computer use is limited to one (1) hour per session/person. Additional one-hour session is allowed to the same user but not on consecutive time.
  • Users must inform staff to print documents. Printed documents will only be given upon presentation of receipt of payment issued by Accounting Office.
  • Log-out when finished and claim ID for proper recording of time used .
  • Only the student using a computer is allowed inside the Internet Section.
  • Computers are shut down 30 minutes before the Library closes.

WI – FI ACCESS

Faculty and students should inquire from the Information Technology Department how to register their laptops to have internet access in and out of the library.

 

CONDUCT IN THE LIBRARY

  • Silence must be observed at all times.
  • Eating, drinking, sleeping, littering, loitering are strictly prohibited.
  • Laptop is allowed for research and academic works at the Main Library only.
  • Cell phones must be turned off or in a silent mode. They may not be used for incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Chairs must be arranged after use.
  • Used books must be placed on designated places.
  • Concealing library materials in the Library for the exclusive use of an individual or group is prohibited.
  • Mutilating library materials by marking, underlining, removing pages or portions of pages, removing binding, removing electronic theft devices, using post-its and paper clips or in any other way damaging or defacing library materials is strictly prohibited. Readers Services shall cease 15 minutes before the indicated closing time in order to enable the staff members to put the library in order for the next day's services.

III.   PROCEDURES

A.  Borrowing of Equipment

  • Reservations should be done at least three (3) days in advance.
  • IMC Reservation Form should be accomplished in duplicate copies.
  • Reservation forms should be signed following the order of signatories below:

  • Cancellation of reservation should be done before the actual use.
  • Borrowed materials/equipment should be returned immediately after use.
  • For off-campus, borrowers should secure approval from the Administrative Director.

    B. Reservation of Audiovisual/Discussion Room

  • Reservations should be done at least three (3) days in advance.
  • IMC Reservation Form should be accomplished in duplicate copies.
  • Reservation form should be signed by the chief librarian.
  • Requesting party should be on time, otherwise, reservation will be cancelled after 15 minutes.
  • Requesting party should require attendees to fill up the IMC AVR/DR Attendance Sheet and submit to IMC staff.
  • Requesting parties/users are required to leave the premise in good order and on time.
  • GENERAL POLICIES
  • A validated MDC school ID should be presented in reserving facility and / or borrowing equipment  
  • Use of instructional materials and facilities is limited to the MDC community.
  • For off-campus use of equipment, approval of the Administrative Director is required.
  • Borrowing equipment or reservation for AVR or Discussion Room is on a first come-first served basis.
  • Reservation is three (3) days before the scheduled activity.
  • Any cancellation of reservation must be made at least one day before the scheduled activity.
  • Damage or loss of property is charged against the person who reserved and used the property.
  • No faculty or group shall be allowed to monopolize the use of a facility or equipment.
  • Suggestions regarding the use of the IMC should be addressed to the Chief Librarian. 

10. The borrower is required to be present during the activity.
11. Borrower is required to be on time; otherwise, reservation is cancelled after 15 minutes.
  12.  IMC reserves the right to cancel or revoke confirmed reservations in case of misrepresentation or violation of the policies, rules and regulations
